The superstars continue to work hard and use perseverance! We learned about ways to grow our brain. We participated in an activity in which we read an article about how the brain works and grows. Then, we used capsules which we pretended were our brains and discussed ways we could make our brains stronger. As we promised to do things like practice our spelling words and read every day, we dropped warm water on our "brains" which made them grow and expand. I hope the superstars will remember all year long that they have the power to make their brains stronger!!
The superstars have also participated in several perseverance challenges in which they were faced with difficult tasks to work through. The kids were amazing!! They worked well together and never gave up!! Perseverance is crucial to learning new things and overcoming obstacles at school.
The superstars have become experts at using Xtra Math and Spelling City on their chromebooks. They are becoming masters of addition facts by practicing on Xtra Math every day. They have also been doing fabulous on their spelling tests! Thank you for working with them at home.

We have been working on addition in math. We have learned many strategies for adding 3-digit numbers such as building a model, using a number line, using expanded notation and the traditional method. We have also worked on finding missing addends (mystery numbers) Example: 37 + ___ = 62 The superstars have developed MANY strategies for finding missing numbers and they have been learning from each other.
We have enjoyed Respect Circles with Mr. Lyman on Tuesdays. We are always working towards filling buckets at school. Our current goal is to clean up after ourselves in the cafeteria.

We have been reading James and the Giant Peach every day and it truly is one of the best parts of our school day! We are really enjoying visualizing all the crazy adventures of our favorite characters. The superstars have been working on visualizing what they read. Making a movie in our mind as we read helps us to better understand the text.
The superstars also worked hard to prepare our school for curriculum night. Since Mrs. Haney was in charge of this event, they helped create banners to beautify the school and they participated in the door decorating contest. We received 3rd place!!! Way to go Superstars!!!
