What a perfect way to kick off the last week of school: getting comfy and reading all day long! We had 7 magnificent guest readers! Thank you Mrs. Peeper & Mrs. Howery for volunteering your time to read us some fantastic books! Mr. Lyman, Mr. Haas, Mrs. Holland, Mrs. Mosher & Mr. Hager all also made appearances. We read in comfy spots around the room, heard some of Ms. Davidson's favorites, read outside in the sunshine and even listened to stories on our chrome books. Students tracked all the books they read on their own. We also kept track of the books we read together as a class. Our goal was 100 books. By the end of the day, the superstars had read a total of 204 books!!! So impressive! We ended the day by building and enjoying our ice cream sundaes. They earned parts of their sundae by mastering multiplication facts. Can't wait for beach day tomorrow!

Thank you to Melissa Garza for donating fruit snacks for our healthy snack break! Celebratory Blow Pops after testing! A trip to Sharp Park was the perfect way to celebrate the end of testing and enjoy this perfect day! We even found a frog!!
Getting so sad that this year is coming to a close! I have loved teaching this kind, thoughtful & hard working group of students oh so much! They are just such a magical group! I know they will be so successful in 4th grade and throughout the rest of their lives. I will miss them so much!!
The superstars are super confident and focused for their math test today! They have GOT THIS!! Thanks to the Mateer family for our yummy brain food today! (and congrats on the beautiful new addition to their family! )

Success. Happiness. Greatness. Achievement. It's MINT to be! The superstars are busy rocking out part 1 of the ELA performance task with loads of confidence! Thanks to the Taylor family for providing fruit cups for some delicious brain food! The Elmwood staff chalked the sidewalk after school on Monday to support the 3rd graders! As they walked in for their first round of testing on Tuesday, these encouraging words greeted them! Luckily, they have not washed away yet!
The kids are off and running on the second round of M-Step! Today they are shining like true superstars! They enjoyed their 2nd surprise from Ms. Davidson. We also rocked out to "you're a superstar " before we began testing. Thanks to the Holliday family for the delicious and healthy snack! The kids are loving their carrots!
The superstars are taking on the first round of the M-Step like champs! After library this morning, they were welcomed into our room with motivational cards from the 4th graders & a special treat from me! "Rock the test! This is how we roll!" We had a quick dance party to Katy Perry's "Firework" to remind them that they are going to shine! Then, they were off and running! Thanks for the healthy snacks and h2o from the Howery Family!
We continue to work on fractions. Our latest challenge was to use pattern blocks to make as many whole hexagons as possible. While doing so, students discovered relationships among fractions. For example, they saw that 2/6 make 1/3 and that 3/6 make 1/2. They are becoming fraction masters!! We have had lots to celebrate lately! We had cupcakes for Te'Chaun's birthday on Friday. The superstars also ROCKED their most recent Reading Street test with a class average of 87%! Today, during respect circle, Kayla was named bucketfiller of the month for always helping others. Way to go Kayla!! Our school is currently raising money for the fight against blood cancers such as leukemia as part of the Pasta for Pennies program. Each child received a yellow coin box to fill. Find that loose change in your couch cushions, hiding in your cupholders and weighing down your pockets and throw it in the box! We have already collected a significant amount as a class. Seven superstars have turned in their coin boxes so far! The last day to turn in coins is this Friday, April 24th. Check out info about Pasta for Pennies here. I will be out for the next 2 days because I was given the opportunity to attend a fantastic reading and writing training! I will miss the superstars, but I know these 2 days will be well spent. I look forward to applying all the things I learn when I get back. M-Step testing is approaching. 4th grade starts testing next week. Be on the lookout for more information regarding testing next week. Mr. Lyman has set an attendance challenge for the school! we are hoping to increase the amount of students here every day, all day! Students that are at school all day every day for a week, plus are on time and are not picked up early will receive a prize. Obviously, if kids are truly sick, they need to stay home. The good news is, if your kiddo misses the prize one week, they can earn it the next! So be sure to come to school on time and try to miss as few days as possible. It is crucial for students to be here as we prepare for M-Step testing! Thanks for reading! Enjoy the picture and slideshow below.
Today, we used educreations to create videos of us explaining how to compare two fractions! Here is a great example:
