Homework Policy and philosophy
Can you stay in the homework club???
I have three main reasons for assigning homework:
1. To encourage a sense of responsibility
2. To show families what we are working on in the classroom
3. To give students some simple practice with skills we have already covered in class
Homework packets go home on Mondays. If for some reason I am not sending homework that week it will be noted on your child's behavior chart. If a child is absent on Monday, it is their responsibility to ask for the homework packet.
Homework packets are due on Fridays. If a child is absent on Friday, they must bring it the following Monday.
Weekly Fluency Poem:
-My greatest fear is that families will not give the weekly fluency poem in the homework packets the amount of attention it deserves.
-Research has proven over and over again that making improvements in a students reading fluency will have a positive impact on their comprehension.
-Please take the time to read the poem with your child at least 5 times a day (see homework schedule) and sign the bottom of the page to let me know you completed the process.
-Students will have a chance to read the poem at school as well.
-The goal is that by the end of the week they can read it with speed, accuracy and expression
