We spend a lot of time in class talking about setting goals and working hard to achieve them. We have discussed that some goals are school/work related such as: "I want to read above grade level by April" or "I want to score a 90% on my next reading street test." Other goals are more personal, such as: "I want to learn how to skateboard" or "I want to learn how to cook a new recipe." The kids have been tracking their school goals in a goal folder that will be sent home every so often for sharing with families. During our discussions about goal setting, I shared that I had set a personal goal to run a 5K. We discussed how this goal was difficult for me to reach (as I was NEVER much of a runner) but it was achievable (I didn't start out with trying to run a marathon). I explained how we have to make plans to help us achieve our goals and then stick to the plan. My plan included running 3 times a week and signing up for the Color Me Rad run in Oct. Well, I SORT-OF accomplished my goal. I did run in the 5K. However, I did have to walk for about one-third of the way. I had a great time and am already thinking about my next 5K where I will strive to run the entire time. I hope this will inspire some kiddos to set goals and work hard to achieve them! Ever since the kids heard about my race, they have been dying to see photos so I thought I would share them here. Enjoy the color craziness!!
